Jazz Portrait- This jazz suite is inspired by lines from James Joyce's novel, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and performed here by John Swana, EVI; Ron Kerber, saxophones; David Bennett Thomas, piano, percussion; Kevin Hanson, guitar; Micah Jones, bass; Erik Johnson, drums; and Arturo Stable, percussion.

Wave Of Light - ("Glimmering and trembling, trembling and unfolding, a breaking light, an opening flower, it spread in endless succession to itself, breaking in full crimson, and unfolding and fading to palest rose, leaf by leaf and wave of light by wave of light, flooding all the heavens with its soft flushes, every flush deeper than other.")

Fleece of Clouds - Melody: Benedictus Domino, School of Notre Dame c. 1175 ("The phrase and the day and the scene harmonised in a chord.  Words.  Was it their colours?  He allowed them to glow and fade, hue after hue: sunrise gold, the russet and green of apple orchards, azure of waves, the grey-fringed fleece of clouds.")

Distant Pools - ("He climbed to the crest of the sandhill and gazed about him.  Evening had fallen.  A rim of the young moon cleft the pale waste of sky like the rim of a silver hoop embedded in grey sand; and the tide was flowing in fast to the land with a low whisper of her waves, islanding a few last figures in distant pools.")

The Colour The Sea Was At Night - ("The corridors were darkly lit and the chapel was darkly lit.  Soon all would be dark and sleeping.  There was cold night air in the chapel and the marbles were the colour the sea was at night. The sea was cold day and night:  but it was colder at night.")

Dieu - Melody: Benedictus Domino, School of Notre Dame c. 1175 ("Dieu was French for God and that was God's name too; and when anyone prayed to God and said Dieu then God knew at once that it was a French person that was praying.")
