Education:

David Bennett Thomas graduated from West Chester University (B.S. 1991) where he studied with Jacques Voois and Larry McKenna; and The Peabody Conservatory of Music (M.M. 1997) where he graduated with honors and studied with Morris Cotel. He also had extensive private studies with Lukas Foss and Ron Thomas.

Professional Experience:

Mr. Thomas has been on the faculty at The University of the Arts (Philadelphia, PA) since 1998; teaching composition, theory, and piano. In recent years, his music has been performed throughout New York and Philadelphia by such artists as The Gregg Smith Singers, The Satori Chamber Music Group, The New Carillon Ensemble, Melomanie, The Orchestral Society of Philadelphia, by saxophonist Marshall Taylor, oboist Lloyd Shorter, pianists Samuel Hsu, Gary Gress, and Daniel Gortler, as well as vocalists Rosalind Rees, Mary Elizabeth Poore, and Deb Lipsi. He has had several performances at The Festival of the Hamptons, as well as The Bethlehem Guitar Festival, and has organized annual concerts of new music for several years. Thomas' music has been heard on WWFM's Divertimento program, as well as WBAR FM, New York.

March, 2005. Premieres of "Three Pieces for Clarinet and Piano", and a new vocal piece based on Walt Whitman's poetry, performed at The Fifth Annual Concert of New Music, Wheatland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster, PA.

The David Thomas Jazz Trio performs every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Sullivan's Steakhouse in King of Prussia, PA. Recent sidemen include bassists Steve Meashey, Steve Varner, Madison Rast, David Brodie, and drummers Tony Deangelis, Erik Johnson, Joe Hunt, and Fred Biondi.

Cantata.
Winner of Philadelphia Orchestral Society's Young Composers Competition.
Recieved several grants from The University of the Arts to support recording of Three Goodbyes, and Trio for Flute, Cello, and Piano.
Winner of Morawetz Award in Composition at Peabody Conservatory of Music.
